Built specifically to meet the latest Euro IV emissions legislation, the VM R425 DOHC is the cleanest diesel engine ever to beat at the very heart of a LTI taxi. Cleaner and greener with no compromise in economy or power.

Designed by Europe’s leading diesel engine specialist specifically for the TX4, the high torque delivery at low speed means you can pull away from a standing start quickly and comfortably; a feature fundamental to taxi operation.

As you put your foot down, there is no disappointment. The R425 DOHC effortlessly pulls you up to cruising speed and keeps you there quietly and smoothly as gear driven twin balance shafts within the engine reduce vibration to a minimum.

With four valves per cylinder and common rail multi-stage fuel injection technology it packs a punch never before experienced in a purpose-built taxi.


Working in perfect harmony with the new electronic engine management system, optimum engine performance is achieved as information is seamlessly relayed from the driver to the engine and transmission.

Finally it is all put to the test. The extensive road and track testing means that you can expect mile after mile of trouble free motoring. The VM R425 DOHC is the most stringently tested and reliable engine we have ever had.

Automatic Transmission
Proven over 600,000 miles of testing, with 5-speeds and refined for the TX4, the fully automatic transmission is electronically linked to the entire engine management system. The carefully chosen ratios match engine output to road speed for the most fuel efficient use of available power with smooth gear changes.

Manual Transmission
The 5-speed manual transmission is manufactured with increased casing rigidity and the latest composite construction gearshift technology for improved durability. Like the automatic, it is refined specifically for the TX4 and delivers greater comfort with reduced noise which all adds to easier driving.
